The schedule for the 2023/24 Premier League 2 season has been unveiled, and Newcastle United Under-21s will commence the campaign with a home game against Southampton.
Led by coach Ben Dawson, the young Magpies will face their Southampton counterparts at Little Benton Academy on Sunday, 13th August, with kick-off at 12.30pm BST. The team is slated to participate in 20 regular-season matches this season, following the revamped format for the 2023/24 campaign.
Among the challenging fixtures, Newcastle’s rising stars will take on renowned clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea, and Manchester United, along with local rivals Sunderland and Middlesbrough.
Once the 20 Matchweeks of the regular season conclude, the top 16 teams will progress to a single elimination play-off. The pairings for the play-off matches will be determined based on the teams’ league positions, with the top-ranked team facing the sixteenth-ranked team, and so on.
Newcastle United will divide their home games between Whitley Park and the club’s Academy. Additionally, if they finish the 2023/24 campaign within the top 12, they will earn an invitation to next season’s prestigious Premier League International Cup competition.
