Ritu Moni had further been named player of the match owing to her economical bowling of 2-15 in four over appearnce.
Bangladesh registered their maiden success in an ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup since 2014 when they beat a debuting Scotland by 16 runs.
After Sobhana Mostary played a brilliant innings and scored a personal best of 36 runs, Saskia Horley took three important last wickets to break the heart of the Bangladesh innings. The best they were able to do was put up a total of 119 for seven with Mostary holding the fort.

But Horley’s tight last over even things out in the game as she curtailed the Bangladeshi innings and mostary’s efforts during the end overs were nullified, turning the tide in favor of her team in the contest.
In the second attempt when the score to be chased was120, Scotland were in comfort and then went back to chaos and no remarkable partnerships could be formed by Sarah Bryce which resulted in Bangladesh completing a historic win.
The Scottish response was choked off by their bowlers and although there was an undefeated 49 from 52 balls by Neysa Bryce, the debutants could only scrape together 103-7 in reply for Bangladesh’s first win of the tenth T20 World Cup.
“This is the moment we have been waiting for,” says Nigar Sultana Joty, the captain of Bangladesh. “We had in our minds that this is our moment. Means a lot.”
Ritu Moni bagged the award for player of the match for her economical bowling figures of 2-15 off four overs.
It was a disappointing first match for the players a sthey had to battle the 38c heat and more so the slow pitch and outfield to the batters.
The fans at Sharjah cricket stadium did not have much to cheer about as there were only 15 boundaries hit and no sixes in the whole match.
“A batter’s paradise it was not very easy to bat on initially,” said Joty who was playing her 100th T20I.
“We had a great score and maintaining the belief in us. I have to say we have a very strong spin unit and we are looking into a good phase of build. We are trying to maintain that, and today, we did just that, we maintained the streak.”
“I am sure the fighting back was what made me very happy and especially looking at them (the girls) smiling is the best form of motivation.”
Scotland on the other hand could have won if the team did not drop three straightforward chances.
“Outfitting yesterday, we didn’t play especially bad but we were a little bit sloppy with our tactics and fielding,” captain Katheryn Bryce turned over first.”
“Unfortunate shoulder, a couple of overthrows and misfields. These small things can cost you in the end.
“I knew from the very beginning that it would be tough (when starting our first game), particularly overcoming the nerves. Glad I went in and went through it.”
