Babar Azam’s Former Pakistan Cricketer Mohammad Yousuf Claims Babar Azam Cried After Pakistan’s World Cup Loss to Afghanistan
Former Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Yousuf has made a significant revelation regarding Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam after the team’s shocking eight-wicket loss to Afghanistan in the ongoing ODI World Cup in India. According to Yousuf, Babar Azam cried after the defeat, a sign of the immense pressure he and the team are under as they face the prospect of an early exit from the tournament.
Babar Azam has been captaining the Pakistani side in the tournament, but the team’s performance has been far from impressive, with three back-to-back defeats in five games. Yousuf, while speaking on a Pakistani TV show, expressed his concern over the situation, saying, “I heard Babar Azam cried after the defeat against Afghanistan last night. It’s not only Babar’s fault; the entire team and management are involved. We are with Babar Azam in this tough time, and the entire nation is with him.”
In the match against Afghanistan, Pakistan batted first at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, posting a total of 282 for 7. Babar Azam himself contributed with 74 runs, while Abdullah Shafique scored 58. However, Afghanistan managed to chase down the total in 49 overs, led by strong performances from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65), Ibrahim Zadran (87), Rahmat Shah (77), and their captain Hashmatullah Shahid (48).
This defeat has left Pakistan in a precarious situation, occupying the fifth spot in the ODI World Cup standings. They now face a significant challenge to qualify for the semi-finals. To have any chance of progressing, they need to win all their remaining games, improve their Net Run Rate (NRR) significantly, and may also have to rely on other match results to go in their favor.
In the aftermath of the match, Babar Azam’s expressed his disappointment at the post-match presentation, stating, “This hurts us. We had a good total. In the bowling, we aren’t up to the mark because we are not taking wickets in the middle overs. In the World Cup, if you are not good in even one department, then you’ll lose the match. In the field, we didn’t stop boundaries and gave away runs, which cost us. Bowling – we started well, in the middle overs, we needed wickets, but we couldn’t take any wickets. All credit to Afghanistan for the way they played in all three departments. That’s why they won. We are not playing good cricket in bowling and fielding.”
As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Babar Azam’s to see how he responds and leads Pakistan in their remaining games. The team’s performance has raised questions about his leadership and the challenges they face in their bid to qualify for the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup.
This revelation by Mohammad Yousuf reflects the intense pressure and scrutiny faced by the Pakistani cricket team and its captain in this high-stakes competition. It remains to be seen whether they can turn things around and make a late surge in the tournament to keep their hopes of a World Cup victory alive.
