Asian Para Games 2026: Dilip Gavit Wins Gold as Mohammed Basil Takes Silver

India enjoyed a memorable moment at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, as Dilip Gavit and Mohammed Basil secured gold and silver in the men’s 100m event.

Gavit crossed the finish line in 10.69 seconds to claim the top position, while Basil finished closely behind in 10.72 seconds.

The Indian pair delivered an impressive performance in a competitive sprint final on October 21.

Their result added valuable medals to India’s growing tally at the continental competition.

The achievement also highlighted the country’s continued progress in international para-athletics.

Dilip Gavit Claims Sprint Gold

Gavit produced a powerful run to secure gold in the combined men’s 100m T46/T47 event.

The Indian sprinter maintained his pace through the race and finished ahead of his compatriot by just 0.03 seconds.

China’s Kangjun Shi took bronze after recording a time of 10.80 seconds.

The close finish underlined the high level of competition among the participating athletes.

Gavit’s latest victory added another important achievement to his growing record in para-athletics.

Mohammed Basil Sets a Games Record

Basil secured silver with a time of 10.72 seconds, producing a record-setting performance for the T47 classification.

Although he narrowly missed the gold medal, his run marked a significant achievement for Indian para-sport.

The T46 and T47 classifications cover athletes with upper-limb impairments, with eligibility depending on the nature and extent of the impairment.

The combined race brought athletes from both classifications together for the event.

India’s first-two finish demonstrated the strength and depth of its sprinting talent at the Games.

India Continues Its Strong Para-Athletics Campaign

The result continued India’s positive run at the Asian Para Games, where athletes have been competing across athletics, archery, swimming and other disciplines.

Gavit had previously won the men’s 400m T47 gold at the 2022 Asian Para Games, while both sprinters also achieved success at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Their latest performances added further momentum to India’s campaign in Nagoya.

The country will aim to build on these results as more medal events take place.

The gold and silver finish stands out as another proud achievement for Indian para-athletics.
