Gakpo, along with Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salah, is one of the five senior forwards in Klopp’s squad for the 2023-24 season. As the team wrapped up their pre-season tour with a 4-3 loss to Bayern Munich in Singapore, Gakpo and Diaz both found the net.
The Dutch international believes that having such depth and variety in attacking options is a major positive for Liverpool, especially as they aim for success on multiple fronts in the upcoming campaign, which kicks off against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on August 13.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Gakpo said, “We have a lot of options. We have a lot of games, so we can choose the best option for each match. I think we have great options, and that bodes well for the season.”
In the match against Bayern Munich, Gakpo showcased his prowess with a powerful finish to give Liverpool an early lead, followed by Virgil van Dijk’s header to increase their advantage just before the half-hour mark. Although the German champions equalized through goals from Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane by half-time, Luis Diaz managed to score and make it 3-2 midway through the second half.
