Barcelona News: Lionel Messi makes history against Girona
Lionel Messi and records is a love story that will transcend any timeline. The Argentine has been associated with one goal scoring record or the other during his career and the Argentine was again at his supreme best to rewrite the record books for the umpteenth time.
The Barca superstar’s latest feat came on Saturday as the forward put two past the Girona keeper two help the La Liga leaders to a comfortable 6-1 win. In doing, the Argentine has now become the player with the highest number of goals scored by a player against Spanish sides in history.
The goals helped Messi claim Girona as his 36th Spanish victim as he pipped Athletic Bilbao poacher Aritz Aduriz and Real Madrid legend in terms of this record. All the three were previously level on 35 different clubs that they had scored against.
Messi has again been in imperious form this season for the Blaugarana. His 30 goals from 36 appearances this season has helped the Catalans reach the final of the Copa del Rey, open up a big eight-point lead at the top of La Liga whilst still in contention to win the Champions League as well.
Breaking records have been nothing but child’s play for Messi. However, the Argentine superstar has time and again claimed he is one that plays for the glory of the team. And with that in mind, nothing would make him happier if he can truly re-write history in the next few weeks in two vital games – which can make or break Barcelona’s campaign.
Messi will lead his troops out for battle against Chelsea on 15th of March with a place in the final eight of the Champions League at stake. They will then take on Sevilla in the final of the Copa del Rey next month.
