Tickets for her opening match at the National Bank Open in Toronto sold out within days, fueled by overwhelming support from the Filipino community in Canada.
Toronto Match Sells Out
Eala is scheduled to begin her National Bank Open campaign on Wednesday at Sobeys Stadium in Toronto.
According to Tennis Canada, around 3,100 tickets were purchased immediately after her opening match was announced last Friday. By Sunday, every available ticket had been sold.
Reports suggest that only Serena Williams has previously sold out a Wednesday night opening match at the tournament over the past two decades, highlighting Eala’s rapidly growing popularity.
Filipino Community Shows Strong Support
Southeastern Canada’s large Filipino community played a major role in the sell-out, eager to watch the Philippines’ biggest tennis star compete.
Eala recently climbed into the WTA Top 20, becoming the highest-ranked Filipino tennis player since before World War II after winning her maiden WTA 500 title.
Her achievements have inspired millions of Filipinos worldwide, especially the country’s estimated 12 million overseas Filipinos, who see her success as a source of national pride.

Singapore-based journalist Raul Dancel described Eala as a symbol of hope and pride for Filipinos living abroad.
He noted that overseas Filipinos often feel encouraged by Eala’s achievements, seeing them as proof that Filipinos can excel on the global stage.
Dancel also praised Eala’s humility, optimism and grounded personality, describing her as someone who genuinely represents the values admired in Filipinos around the world.
Following her Washington triumph, many supporters expressed their admiration, with overseas Filipino worker Ell Soriano simply saying:

Comparisons to Manny Pacquiao
Eala is increasingly being compared to boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, although supporters see the comparison as a compliment rather than a burden.
Lawyer Ian Vincent Cavada Manticajon said both Pacquiao and Eala represent a new generation of Filipinos who compete confidently on the world stage.
He described Eala as globally trained while remaining respectful of her cultural roots, adding that she embodies the confidence and ambition of today’s young Filipinos.
A Special Match Against a Fellow Filipina Heritage Star
