Mayank Agarwal replaces Shikhar Dhawan for ODI series against West Indies

The selectors have drafted in Mayank Agarwal in the squad for the 3-match ODI series versus the West Indies. Shikhar Dhawan’s left knee was impacted by a deep cut while in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match versus Maharashtra at Surat. He missed out on the T20I series against the West Indies as a result of this injury. Dhawan, who turned 34 years old on December 5, was replaced by Kerala wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson in the T20I series.

Samson was in the squad for the T20I series against Bangladesh, which India won 2-1. However, he did not play a single match and was dropped for the West Indies series.

Shikhar Dhwaan’s stitches have come off but the wound is recovering slowly. He will still require more time before getting back into the middle as per reports issued by the BCCI’s Medical Team.

This has opened the door into the Indian ODI team for Karnataka batsman Mayank Agarwal.  He has been scoring runs by the dozens in Test matches for India and also other limited-overs matches in the domestic circuit. Agarwal scored two double hundreds and a hundred in the Test Series matches against Bangladesh and South Africa while he made a vital 69 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Tamil Nadu. Karnataka eventually won the title while Agarwal also piled on a hundred for India C in the Deodhar Trophy against India A.
