Rafael Nadal’s 2007 French Open-Winning Racket Fetches $118,000 at Auction

In a remarkable turn of events, Rafael Nadal’s iconic racket, used during his 2007 French Open triumph against Roger Federer, has been sold at auction for an impressive sum of over $118,000. The sale, which took place on Monday, positions this piece of tennis memorabilia among the highest-priced items of its kind.

Nadal’s memorable victory over Federer in the 2007 final in Paris, where he secured his third Grand Slam title, marked a pivotal moment in his illustrious career. Subsequently, Nadal went on to claim a total of 19 Grand Slam victories, with an impressive 14 of them achieved at Roland Garros, solidifying his status as one of the sport’s greatest players.

The racket, a crucial instrument in Nadal’s journey to victory, had also been wielded in earlier matches of the tournament, including a semifinal triumph against Novak Djokovic. The successful bidder secured ownership of this historic piece for a final bid of $118,206 through the online auction hosted by Prestige Memorabilia’s The Tennis Auction, which concluded on Monday.

Previously housed in the Australian Tennis Museum, the racket’s sale marked the end of its display in the museum, following its recent closure. Notably, this auction joins the ranks of other notable tennis racket sales, including Nadal’s 2022 Australian Open racket ($139,700), Billie Jean King’s “Battle of the Sexes” racket ($125,000), and Djokovic’s 2016 French Open racket ($107,482).

Despite missing the recent Australian Open due to a minor muscle tear sustained during his comeback at the Brisbane International in January, the 37-year-old Nadal is poised for a return to competitive tennis in February. He is scheduled to participate in the ATP 250 tournament in Doha, marking his return to the court after a period of recovery.

This sale not only signifies the enduring value of tennis memorabilia but also serves as a testament to the continued admiration for Rafael Nadal’s remarkable career and his historic achievements on the tennis court.
