FIFA World Cup 2018: Diego Maradona gives health update after needing medical attention following Argentina’s win over Nigeria

Diego Maradona has insisted that he is okay after needing medical attention during Argentina's win over Nigeria. The Argentine great was pictured being treated by paramedics during and after the game.

Rumours suggested that he be transferred to a hospital soon, the 1986 World Cup winner denied all such claims but revealed that he was asked to leave at half-time. The  57-year-old wrote on Facebook 'I want to tell everyone that I am fine, that I am not, nor was I, hospitalised. At half-time of the game against Nigeria, my neck hurt a lot and I suffered a decompensation.

'I was checked by a doctor and, he recommended that I leave before the second half, but I wanted to stay because we were playing for everything. How could I leave? I send a kiss to everyone. Thanks for the support.' he added.

Diego Maradona was the centre of attention from the very beginning. The cameras were on him even before kickoff where he was spotted dancing with a Nigerian woman. Subsequent he was seen exuberantly celebrating Lionel Messi's classy opener.

A little while later, close to the end of the first half, the cameras caught Maradona sleeping. The Argentine great got up shocked to see a man standing in front of him, and rumours suggested that was not in a healthy state of mind.

He was silent for the rest of the game until Marcos Rojo scored in the dying minutes. He was jubilant and was found giving middle-finger salutes to the crowd in the tier below.

Argentina will now face France in Kazan in the last 16 on Saturday. Lionel Messi and co will be aware of the threat the French side will bring to the game and will have to be on top of their game.

Any slip-up, like the one they had vs Croatia, will not be entertained by the fans and that will also see them heading home.
