Manchester City sign 19-year-old Daniel Arzani from Melbourne City FC

Manchester City have snapped up Daniel Arzani from Melbourne City FC. The 19-year-old is expected to be loaned out immediately to Celtic though, in order to progress and gain experience in his career.

The Iran-born Australian featured in the 2018 World Cup, making three appearances off the bench for the men from Down Under. He had forced his way into the first team at the mere age of 17, before winning A-League's Young Player of The Season award in 2017-18.

His performances didn’t go unnoticed and he was rewarded with a place in the 23-man Australian squad that went to Russia, where he became the tournament’s youngest player.

“Having the chance to train and play in Europe is a dream come true and a challenge I’m confident will only help me improve as a player,” said Arzani following the move.

The teenager has followed Aaron Mooy’s footsteps, who had switched to Melbourne’s parent club Manchester City before he was loaned out to Huddersfield Town, where he eventually signed a permanent deal.

'In a short period of time, Daniel has developed into one of Australia's brightest young stars and has demonstrated the drive and raw talent required for success at the highest level,” said Brian Marwood, City Football Group's managing director of global football.

'This pathway was first forged by Aaron Mooy just two years ago, and we are all delighted to see another Australian-grown talent make this move,' he added.

Manchester City’s global network is definitely helping some youngsters fulfil their dreams of playing for Europe’s top clubs. Inarguably, it would be a shame if Australia’s most promising young talent didn’t get a transfer away from the A-League.

The Centurions begin their title defence on 12th August against a brand new Arsenal side. Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic lock horns with Hearts on Saturday.
