India Secured Spot in Super League Semi-Final of Under-19 World Cup 2020

India, the defending champions, bagged their spot in the Super League semi-finals of the Under-19 World Cup. India notched up a victory over Australia by 74 runs in the first quarterfinal of the premier event that took place on the 28th of January, Tuesday, at Potchefstroom.

Under-19 India vs Australia Match Result & Summary

India put up 102 runs on the board in 25 overs with the flamboyant Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring 62 runs out of this tally, before being dismissed soon after. The middle order then collapsed against Todd Murphy and Corey Kelly, with India slipping to 144/6 by over number 38. Yet, a gritty 55 not out off 54 balls by Atharva Ankolekar came in really handy, helping India post 233 runs in all. He added a total of 61 runs in a partnership with Ravi Bishnoi for the 7th wicket. Bishnoi himself scored a handy 30 runs off 31 balls.

India got off to an amazing start courtesy Kartik Tyagi, who picked up a couple of wickets in a triple-wicket starting over to derail Australia’s batting line-up immediately. Australia were 4/3 and then 17/4 with Tyagi picking up a third wicket as well. However, Sam Fanning put up a fight, putting up 51 runs in a partnership with Patrick Rowe. Yet, Tyagi once again broke this partnership by scalping Rowe although Fanning put together another partnership of 81 runs with Liam Scott to keep Australia’s chances alive.

Bishnoi broke this partnership by taking Scott’s wicket and Australia then crumbled, losing 5 wickets for only 10 runs after they were 149/5. The team was all out in 44 overs, giving India a big victory in the match. Kartik Tyagi was the stand-out performer, taking 4 wickets for just 24 runs while Akash Singh had figures of 3/30 in a sensational bowling display overall by India.

Zimbabwe vs Canada Quarter Final Match Results

In another quarter-final match, Zimbabwe defeated Canada comprehensively with an all-round show by Gareth Chirawu and a fabulous century from Emmanuel Bawa. Zimbabwe defeated Canada by 95 runs and were 54/5 at one stage. However, Taurayi Tugwete and Bawa had a good partnership of 84 runs for the 6th wicket which took the team close to 150 although the fall of two wickets once again put them on the back foot. Yet, Chirawu and Bawa partnered to stay on till the end of the innings, putting on 130 runs in all. Bawa reached his century while Chirawu had a good 54 runs off 45 balls to his name. Zimbabwe thus reached 271/7 in their 50 overs with Bawa not out on 105.

Canada started miserably, being 2/2 in only 3 overs and Zimbabwe never really allowed them to settle down at the crease. 5 batsmen got good starts but none could score higher than 26 runs (Rishiv Ragav Joshi). Canada could finally score only 176 runs and the innings ended with 15 balls to spare. Chirawu took 2/40 while Sakhumuzi Ndlela took 2/34.
