It all started with the Indian Premier League in 2008, after which several other T20I franchise cricket tournaments around the world followed. The latest to join the list of such tournaments is the Afghanistan Premier League, the inaugural edition of which will be played in October this year.
Organised by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), the tournaments envisions to attract top players from around the world and become as competitive as other tournaments like the IPL, PSL (Pakistan Super league), BBL (Big Bash League) and the like.
The tournament will feature twenty-three matches to be played between 5 and 23 October 2018 in Sharjah. It has been reported that over forty overseas players will be a part of the league, some of which are big names in the cricketing circle. Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi, Andre Russell, and Brendon McCullum are among the ones to watch out for.
