Fernandes Rejects Claims of a Rift With Carrick
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has dismissed reports of a serious disagreement with head coach Michael Carrick following the club’s dramatic 3-2 comeback victory against AS Roma.
United were trailing 2-0 before producing an impressive second-half performance at Old Trafford on November 3.
Fernandes scored from the penalty spot to begin the comeback, while Matheus Cunha struck twice to secure the win.
Speaking after the match, the Portuguese midfielder insisted that speculation about problems between him and Carrick had been misleading.
He also reaffirmed his confidence in the manager and coaching staff.
Fernandes Accepts Carrick’s Decision to Drop Him
The disagreement reportedly followed United’s 4-1 Champions League defeat against Como, after Fernandes publicly questioned the team’s tactical approach.
Carrick subsequently left the midfielder on the bench during the following 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.
Fernandes acknowledged that the manager had every right to make that decision, explaining that his own performances had not been at the required level.
He added that accepting the manager’s choices was part of his responsibility as a player.
The captain stressed that the incident had not affected his commitment to the club.
United End Difficult Run With Comeback Victory
The victory against Roma ended Manchester United’s run of nine matches without a win and provided a major boost after several disappointing results.
The visitors took an early two-goal advantage, putting further pressure on Carrick and his players.
However, Fernandes converted a penalty before Cunha scored twice late in the game to complete the turnaround.
The result brought relief to supporters and gave the squad renewed confidence.
It also offered Carrick an important result during a challenging period at the club.
Focus Turns to Maintaining Momentum
Despite the memorable comeback, Fernandes made it clear that the team did not need to win simply to protect the manager’s position.
He said the result was important for the entire club, including the players and coaching staff.
Carrick also praised the team’s determination and response after a difficult first half.
Manchester United will now look to build on the result and improve their consistency in upcoming fixtures.
The performance against Roma could prove an important moment if the team manages to maintain its renewed momentum.
