Sergio Perez turned a major Mexico City avenue into a massive celebration. An estimated 100,000 fans packed Paseo de la Reforma to see him. The Mexican driver will make his 300th Grand Prix start this weekend.
Performing For The Fans
Perez drove a specially adapted Formula Two car along the avenue. He performed tyre-smoking doughnuts and greeted fans near the Angel of Independence monument. Mexican flags and giant images of the 36-year-old lined the streets. The free event offered a spectacle for fans unable to attend the race.
Securing His Formula One Future
The six-time Grand Prix winner returned to the grid this year with Cadillac. The team recently announced a multi-year contract extension for Perez. He will remain with Cadillac until the 2029 season. Perez thanked the crowd for their unforgettable support over the years.
Inspiring The Next Generation
Fans of all ages pressed against barriers to glimpse their local hero. Some children sat on their parents’ shoulders or climbed trees to watch. Perez signed autographs and posed for photographs after the driving exhibition. His Cadillac teammate Valtteri Bottas also attended the event and greeted the crowd.
