Roma Thrash Slovan Bratislava 4-0 to Secure First Champions League Win

AS Roma delivered a commanding performance at the Stadio Olimpico on October 20, defeating Slovan Bratislava 4-0 to claim their first victory in the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League league phase.

The Italian side controlled the contest from the opening stages and consistently troubled the visitors with their attacking play.

Mario Hermoso broke the deadlock in the 21st minute, giving the hosts an early advantage.

Nahuel Molina added a second before half-time, putting Roma firmly in control.

The emphatic result provided a timely response after their dramatic European defeat to Real Madrid.

Hermoso and Molina Put Roma in Command

Roma opened the scoring through defender Mario Hermoso, who finished from close range after Lorenzo Pellegrini delivered a free-kick and Riccardo Ghilardi directed the ball into his path.

The hosts continued to create opportunities and doubled their lead in the 39th minute.

Donyell Malen’s effort was saved by the Slovan goalkeeper, but the rebound fell to Molina, who calmly converted.

The two goals gave Roma a comfortable advantage heading into the interval.

Slovan struggled to contain the home team’s movement and attacking pressure throughout the first half.

Pisilli and Malen Complete the Rout

Roma carried their momentum into the second half, extending the lead just seven minutes after the restart.

Niccolò Pisilli struck with a powerful left-footed finish after receiving a pass from Malen, making it 3-0.

The Dutch forward then added his name to the scoresheet from the penalty spot in the 58th minute.

The spot-kick was awarded after Wesley was fouled by Slovan defender Cruz inside the penalty area.

Roma’s four-goal advantage underlined their attacking efficiency and left the visitors with little opportunity to recover.

Roma Dominate Possession and Respond to Defeat

The statistics reflected Roma’s superiority, with the hosts registering 26 shots compared with Slovan Bratislava’s single attempt.

Roma also enjoyed approximately 72.7 per cent possession, demonstrating their control across the match.

Manager Gian Piero Gasperini’s team needed a positive European result after losing 4-3 to Real Madrid despite holding a two-goal lead late in that previous encounter.

The victory offered a confidence boost as Roma continued their campaign in Europe’s premier club competition.

Slovan, meanwhile, will need to improve their defensive organisation and attacking output in their upcoming fixtures.
