India and Tamil Nadu batter Sai Sudharsan was fit to resume playing after an injury scare on the second day of the Ranji Trophy match against Rajasthan in Jaipur on Monday. However, his return to the crease was short-lived, as he was dismissed for three runs.
Sudharsan Returns to the Field After Lunch
Sudharsan took throwdowns during the lunch break before opening the batting for Tamil Nadu alongside N. Jagadeesan. His return came after he had left the field earlier in the day following an injury scare.
The left-handed batter went down while attempting to stop a drive from Rajasthan’s Karan Lamba at cover off P. Saravana Kumar’s bowling. He needed assistance from a member of the support staff to leave the field.
Despite the concern, Sudharsan recovered sufficiently to resume batting later in the day.
Recent Return From a Toe Injury
Sudharsan had only recently returned to competitive cricket after recovering from a toe injury. He featured in the India A series against Australia A in Puducherry as part of his comeback.
The latest incident raised concerns about his fitness, particularly with upcoming red-ball assignments on the schedule.
Named in India A Squad for New Zealand Tour
Sudharsan has been included in India’s A squad for three red-ball matches against New Zealand A. The series is scheduled to begin in Lincoln on October 26.
His fitness will be important as he prepares for the upcoming matches and looks to build on his recent return to action.
Last-Minute Addition to Tamil Nadu’s Playing XI
Sudharsan was not initially named in Tamil Nadu’s squad for the Ranji Trophy fixture against Rajasthan. However, he arrived in Jaipur at around 10 p.m. on the eve of the match and was added to the playing XI at the last minute.
Although he was able to return to the field after the injury scare, his dismissal for three runs meant he could not make a significant contribution with the bat.
