Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first against India in the second semi-final of the 2026 Asian Games men’s cricket competition.
With both teams aiming to secure a place in the final, India will begin their innings after being asked to bat first.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Included in India XI
India have included young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in their playing XI without leaving out either Sanju Samson or Abhishek Sharma.
The three players will form India’s top order, with Samson set to bat at No. 3.
India have opted for a spin-heavy bowling combination for the semi-final.
Jasprit Bumrah is the only specialist fast bowler in the side, while Shivam Dube provides an additional seam-bowling option as an allrounder.
India have also selected spin-bowling allrounders Axar Patel and Washington Sundar, with legspinner Ravi Bishnoi completing the spin attack.
Arshdeep Singh misses out on the playing XI.
Three Sri Lanka Players Make Debuts
Sri Lanka have handed international debuts to three players.
Wicketkeeper-batter Sohan de Livera, left-handed top-order batter Sineth Jayawardena and left-arm spin-bowling allrounder Wanuja Sahan are all making their debuts.
Sri Lanka have selected two pace bowlers in Binura Fernando and Chamika Karunaratne.
Their spin options include legspinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, ambidextrous fingerspinner Tharindu Ratnayake and captain Sahan Arachchige, who provides offspin.
Both Teams Advanced After Washed-Out Quarter-Finals
Both India and Sri Lanka had their respective quarter-final matches washed out.
They advanced to the semi-finals based on their superior rankings compared with their respective opponents.
Weather conditions are currently favourable for the semi-final. However, if the match ends without a result, India will progress to the final because they are the higher-ranked team between the two sides.
The winner of the semi-final will advance to the 2026 Asian Games men’s cricket final.
