Qatar’s motorsport star Nasser Al-Attiyah achieved a remarkable sporting double on Wednesday after winning shooting gold at the Asian Games in the same year he secured another Dakar Rally title.
Qatar Wins Men’s Skeet Gold
The 55-year-old Al-Attiyah was part of the Qatar men’s skeet team that claimed the gold medal in Nagoya. Qatar finished ahead of Kuwait and India to take the top spot.
The victory added another major achievement to Al-Attiyah’s impressive sporting career.
Third Asian Games Gold Medal
Al-Attiyah has now won his third Asian Games gold medal, following his previous victories in 2002 and 2010.
The latest success also takes his overall Asian Games medal tally to six.
His achievements in shooting extend beyond the Asian Games. Al-Attiyah also won a bronze medal in skeet at the 2012 London Olympics.
Six-Time Dakar Rally Champion
Alongside his shooting success, Al-Attiyah has built an outstanding career in motorsport, highlighted by six Dakar Rally titles.
He secured his latest Dakar victory earlier this year with Belgian co-driver Fabian Lurquin.
Driving a Dacia, Al-Attiyah entered the final day with a strong advantage and only needed to avoid a major mistake to secure the overall victory.
Before clinching the Dakar title, Al-Attiyah had already reached another milestone by taking his career tally of stage victories to 50.
