Florian Thauvin’s first-half goal was enough for Lens to defeat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 and lift the Trophée des Champions for the first time in club history.
Thauvin Gives Lens the Lead
PSG started brightly and looked to control the match, but Lens struck first in the 32nd minute.
Abdallah Sima linked up with Matthieu Udol, whose delivery found Florian Thauvin at the far post. The forward finished past Matvey Safonov to put Lens 1-0 ahead.
Lens Reduced to 10 Men
The game changed seven minutes later when Kyllian Antonio was shown a red card for a heavy challenge on Maghnes Akliouche.
Despite playing with 10 men for more than 50 minutes, Lens remained disciplined and protected its narrow advantage.
PSG came close to an equaliser before half-time when Désiré Doué hit the crossbar.
Dembélé Joins PSG’s Fightback
Luis Enrique strengthened his attack after the break, introducing Ousmane Dembélé, Fabián Ruiz and Nuno Mendes in the 60th minute.
Dembélé immediately added pace and tested Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser, who made an important save.
PSG appeared to have finally found the equaliser when Fabián Ruiz put the ball in the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Nuno Mendes Sent Off Late
PSG’s comeback suffered another setback with three minutes remaining.
Nuno Mendes was shown a red card for elbowing an opponent, leaving both teams with 10 players.
Lens briefly appeared to have doubled its advantage through Matthieu Udol, but his goal was also disallowed.
Lens Lift First Trophée des Champions
PSG pushed for an equaliser until the final whistle but could not break through Lens’ resilient defence.
The 1-0 victory secured Lens’ first-ever Trophée des Champions, while PSG missed the opportunity to win a second trophy within four days.
Zidane Watches From the Stands
The match also attracted attention from the French national team setup, with newly appointed France head coach Zinedine Zidane watching from the stands at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
With several French players involved, the fixture provided Zidane with an early opportunity to assess potential national-team options.
