The Hammers have reportedly made an enquiry over the veteran former Leicester City striker, who is available as a free agent after leaving Cremonese.
West Ham United are reportedly exploring a free-transfer move for veteran striker Jamie Vardy as they look to strengthen their attack for the 2026-27 Championship campaign.
The 39-year-old is available on a Bosman transfer after leaving Italian side Cremonese following the expiration of his contract. Reports from Sky Sports and other outlets say West Ham are monitoring his situation, while transfer reporter Ben Jacobs has reported that the club have made an enquiry about a possible deal.
No agreement has been announced, and Vardy is understood to have interest from several clubs. The experienced forward is expected to take time before deciding on the next destination in his career.
Vardy spent the 2025-26 season in Italy with Cremonese. He scored seven goals and provided two assists in 29 appearances across competitions, according to recent reports, although the club ultimately suffered relegation from Serie A.
A return to England would add another chapter to a remarkable career. Vardy is best known for his long spell with Leicester City, where he became one of the defining figures of the club’s historic 2015-16 Premier League title triumph.
He also brings significant Championship experience. Vardy has previously won promotion from England’s second tier and could offer West Ham proven leadership and goalscoring know-how as the London club targets an immediate return to the Premier League.
West Ham were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2025-26 season and are reshaping their squad under Nuno Espirito Santo. Adding another striker is among the club’s priorities as they prepare for a demanding promotion campaign.
Reports suggest AZ Alkmaar and Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott is another player under consideration. The Times reports that Vardy is viewed as an alternative option if West Ham are unable to complete a deal for Parrott.
Vardy would offer a very different solution: there would be no transfer fee, although wages and contract terms would still need to be agreed.
For now, the possibility remains at the enquiry and interest stage. West Ham have not officially announced a deal, and Vardy has yet to confirm where he will play next.
