Doha 2020 Fencing Grand Prix Schedule, Dates, Match Timings and Venues

The 2020 Doha Fencing Grand Prix is slated to be held on the 26th of January, 2020 and is a mega event that will draw lovers of this sport in great numbers. This event is one of the most eagerly awaited ones on the international sporting calendar and represents a major kick-off to 2020 for fans!

History of Fencing in Doha

The 2020 Doha Fencing Grand Prix has its inception in the activities of the Qatar Fencing Federation. This organization was founded on the 20th of December, 2000, in accordance with the pressing demand for inclusion of Fencing, the Olympic Sport, in Qatar. The usage of swords, in fact, harks back all the way to the Bronze Age and in the Middle Ages, swords were heavier in order to balance out heavy battle armor worn by warriors. The evolution of swords through decades has seen them become lighter and hence swordsmen are required to be more skilful in their handling, particularly when they turn to fencing, one of the most celebrated global sports and arts.

Fencing has been included in the Modern Olympic Games ever since the year 1896 and women’s events were included in the year 1924. The number of registered fencers in Qatar has already crossed 100 a long time back due to the positive initiatives of the Association, spearheaded by founding President Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani. The Qatar Fencing Association has already taken part in the Fencing World Championships with distinction along with the Asian Games.
