Qatar is all set to host the 6th Edition of the Weight Lifting International Cup at a glittering tournament slated to start on the 19th of December, 2019. The tournament will conclude on the 24th of December, 2019 and will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel.
The Qatar Cup is held under the supervision and organization of the IWF (International Weightlifting Federation) and also the QWF (Qatar Weightlifting Federation). The tournament has been held from the year 2015 onwards with editions in 2016 and 2018. The inaugural edition had 10 events while there were 16 events at the 2016 edition. The 2018 edition witnessed 28 events taking place.
Iran has confirmed the dispatch of 5 weightlifters for the 6th International Weightlifting Cup in Qatar. The competition will take place between the 19th and 24th of December, 2019 at Doha. The Iranian contingent will comprise of Kianoush Rostami, Ali Miri and Ayoub Mousavi for the men’s division in addition to Parisa Jahanfekrian and Elham Hosseini for the women’s division.
The IWF (International Weightlifting Federation) has given its approval for this event as a silver category qualification event for the Olympics. On the other hand, Nigeria has also approved 5 lifters for representing it at this tournament. This is one of the qualifiers for the 2020 Olympics to be held at Tokyo in Japan. The lifters from Nigeria have been in a camp at Abuja’s Moshood Abiola Stadium from early December to prepare for this tournament.
