Maurizio Sarri has revealed that he is not happy with Willian as the Chelsea star did not return on time and, as a result, doesn’t have much time to get ready for the Community Shield game against Manchester United, this Sunday.
The Brazilian cited passport issues and returned a day later than he was initially scheduled to check in. There were rumours that he was making up issues to force a move away from Chelsea.
Sky Sports reports suggest that Chelsea rejected several bids from Barcelona for Willian this summer. Manchester United have also been keen on signing him, but The Blues are reluctant to let go of him.
Speaking to the media after Chelsea’s penalty shootout loss to Arsenal, Sarri said, “I want to speak to him before I answer these questions. I don't know. I am not happy about the situation, but I would like to talk to him.” when asked if Willian will stay at the club.
'Is it strange? I think so,' added Sarri.
Along with Willian, Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard are also yet to return to the club for pre-season training. The two Belgians are expected to be back on Saturday while still being top targets for Real Madrid.
Sarri once again made it clear that he wants to keep them at the club.
'In this moment [I can't comment on it]. I will see them on Saturday for the first time, so I don't know the situation in this moment. We are talking about top players, and I think every club wants to keep top players.' he said.
Chelsea are willing to let go of Courtois this summer but have refused to let Hazard and Willian leave. The Blues know that Courtois can walk away from free next summer after his contract expires but the other two still have a couple of years left on their current contract.
