Mo Salah the best player in the world, Ronaldo over Messi according to fan poll

According to a recently conducted poll by talkSPORT.com, which simply emphasized on who the best player on the planet is, the fans crowned Liverpool’s talisman and solitaire, Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian was given the nod over two modern day giants, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Messi only managed to finish third as the Portuguese sharpshooter edged past him by a few votes.

The wily winger is finally someone who seems to have bucked the trend, the herculean task of beating the world’s best players in Messi and Ronaldo. Salah has not only set himself apart from the best in the Premier League, but has also almost conquered Europe, guiding the Reds to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League and most probably in the finals, as Jürgen Klopp's men made easy work of AS Roma in the first leg at Anfield. In the same outing, the 25-year-old created two goals along with his brace, which only meant he ran riot once again this season.

Liverpool fans suggested nothing dissimilar when they opened the lid on who should win the most prestigious accolade, the Ballon d'Or. Much like Steven Gerrard, the fans too, splendidly claim that Salah is the best in the business at the moment, and stands a huge chance of winning it after he already had kissed the PFA Player of the year trophy earlier this month.

The former Roma forward has scored a stunning 43 goals in 47 appearances and has piled up 13 assists to his name this term. More importantly, he continues the same vein of form week in week out and demolishing every one that comes in his way.

Apart from this consistency and domination, Cristiano Ronaldo's poor start to the campaign and Messi's exit from the Champions League could be the reason for the results of this poll.

Whether or not Mohamed Salah will break the duopoly next year, will depend on a lot of factors – where Liverpool finish in the Champions League, how he fares in the World Cup with Egypt and most importantly – whhether he can carry this form for the rest of 2018.
