Liverpool eyeing Real Madrid star with £310m release clause – Reports

Liverpool have a huge transfer war chest for the coming summer following the mega sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona. And according to reports in Spain, the Reds are looking to spend that money with an eye to fortify their backline for next season with Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal looking to be a prime option.

Jurgen Klopp already spent a world record £75 million on Virgil Van Dijk in the January transfer window – making the Dutchman the costliest defender ever in world football. The former Dortmund, now seems to have turned a keen eye towards Carvajal, who has been one of the standouts at the Bernabeu in the past few seasons.

With Nathaniel Clyne struggling with injuries, it makes sense for Liverpool to want to bring a seasoned veteran at the position and who better than Carvajal – one of the best ever in that position. The interest – reported by Spanish media house Don Balon, however, looks to be a long shot as it would take a lot of convincing from Liverpool for the Spaniard to leave his country as well as one the biggest teams in world football.

Even Cafu, the Brazil legend also added that Carvajal is one of the best right-backs to have played for Real.

“He is very good, one of the best in the world after Daniel Alves,” Cafu told MARCA.

“He’s been playing well for many years, attacking with force and defending with the same determination.

“Real Madrid haven’t had a full-back as good as him for a long time.”

Adding to all these is a small factor that Carvajal has a £310m release clause – something no one would dare touch even in their wildest dreams.

Whilst the Liverpool Echo have also reported the same, it can only be considered a thing out of someone’s imagination. With Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander Arnold looking good in the time they have been given and Klopp always keen on developing the youngsters a whole lot of things needs to be in place for this transfer to see the light of day.
