Former Real Madrid star: I would play for Barcelona

Former Real Madrid star Angel di Maria won’t have any problems pulling on the Barcelona shirt, the Argentine revealed in an interview. The comment comes just before his current side – PSG take on the defending champions in a mouth-watering Round of 16 clash against the defending champions.

'My relationship with Madrid is finished because my cycle there ended,' he told So Foot.

'Frankly, I wouldn't have a problem to play at Barca, to the contrary.

'The only club I couldn't play for is Newell's Old Boys because I am a fan of Rosario Central.'

The winger spent four glorious seasons at the Bernabeu, winning La Liga as well as the Champions League amongst many titles. However, after delivering the La Decima for the Blancos with some riveting performances on the field, the Blancos decided to cash in on him – selling him to Manchester United in 2014.

His stay in England, however was short-lived. After struggling to find a foothold in the Premier League, the 29-year-old was sent packing to PSG after only one season.

It was only a few days ago that the Argentine had claimed that his countryman Lionel Messi was better than his former Real teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. And he certainly won’t be shying away from taking the field with him at the club level after being an accomplice to him with the national team.

PSG and Real Madrid clash in the Round of 16 stage of the Champions later tonight. The game will be a make or break for both teams but for various reasons. Whilst Real are 17 points behind arch-rivals Barcelona in the La Liga points table, they have also been knocked in the Copa del Rey.

This leaves the Champions League as their last chance to salvage something from the season.

For PSG, success in the Champions League will mean everything. Ever since the Qatari takeover at the French club, the Parisians have failed to truly make their presence felt amongst the European elites in spite of pumping in billions.

After further bolstering the side by signing Neymar and Kylian Mbappe this summer, the owners will hope that their investment will finally bear fruit.
