Sri Lankan cricketer open to make comeback to international cricket

Retired Sri Lankan cricketer Tilekaratne Dilshan might make a comeback to international cricket. He last played an ODI on August 28, 2016, before deciding to call it quits from international cricket.

He continued to play domestic cricket after his retirement and played a lot of T20 leagues around the world as well.

The speculation of his comeback was after he appeared on a radio show in Sri Lanka.

Azzam Ameen, a renowned journalist, opened up about what Dilshan said to Lak FM radio.

“Former Sri Lankan Cricketer TM Dilshan (42) has hinted he could return to International Cricket since the national team is struggling. He told Lak FM radio that he wanted to play until 2019 World-cup but due to certain issues he had to retire earlier,” Azeem said in a Tweet.

A few days ago, Dilshan also spoke to The Mirror about a potential comeback to the squad.

“I continue to play my domestic cricket. Hence, it is not a challenge for me to return to the international side again,” Dilshan said.

“I always think of my country. I presume I did my best in cricket prior to my retirement. However, I am of the opinion that I should do something more for my country,” Dilshan added.

The reason for this is probably Sri Lanka’s dismal performance in ODIs and T20Is over the past few years or so. Sri Lanka were recently knocked out of the Asia Cup after losing both their Group Stage encounters to Afghanistan and Bangladesh respectively.

They did not put up any sort of fight against either of the side and lost both their matches by a huge margin.

Dilshan last played cricket in February, when he played in the St. Moritz Ice Cricket tournament in Switzerland, along with former greats Jacques Kallis, Mike Hussey, Mahela Jayawardene, and Graeme Smith.
