Shoaib Malik calls for more Ind-Pak games

Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik affirmed that India and Pakistan should play against each other more often. According to him, along with the thrill, excitement and entertainment, the fixture would also bring the people of two neighbouring countries together.

Shoaib Malik, one of Pakistan’s most distinguished performers for more than a decade, will take on India on 19 September in the much-awaited Asia Cup. The tournament will commence four days prior to that fixture.

Malik insisted that players from both countries must take the challenge like any other international match and not get pressurized or carried away by the intensity of the occasion.

“It is in the benefit of all if both India and Pakistan play maximum number of matches against each other as it brings entertainment not only for the people of the two countries but also for the rest of the world,” he said, after the completion of a practice session at the Gaddafi Stadium.

“[Playing cricket matches against each other] also brings the people of India and Pakistan closer to each other, as both are neighbouring countries, and every religion also urges [its followers] to take care of the neighbours,” the 36-year-old persisted.

With regards to this matter, he ended on a friendly yet professional note.

“The cricketers of India and Pakistan are professionals and they want to give their best on the field against each other. And off the field they like to behave like friends and we take meals together,” he stated.

In addition to his desire to play more India-Pakistan battles, he said that his side’s preparations for the Asia Cup were on the right track. The right-hander also added that Pakistan must not take sides like Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka lightly.

The Men in Green start their Asia Cup campaign against Hong Kong at the Dubai International Stadium, where Malik is expected to play a key role.
