Real Madrid sue newspaper over Ronaldo allegations

Real Madrid have announced that they will be taking legal action against Correio da Mancha, a Portuguese outlet, who claimed that the Galacticos ordered the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to pay off his accuser before signing for Real Madrid.

The former Real Madrid superstar has been accused of raping Kathryn Mayorga in 2009. In an interview to German outlet Spiegel, Mayorga claimed that the former Manchester United superstar forced himself unto her and then paid her to settle the claim out of the court.

However, the Nevada police have now reopened the case. In the meantime, Correio da Mancha reported that Madrid had asked Ronaldo to pay Mayorga, something that the club have vehemently denied.

In an announcement, Los Blancos completely denied the story and confirmed that they will take legal action against the publication for attempting to damage the image of the club.

A statement read: 'Real Madrid C.F. communicates that it has undertaken legal action against the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Mancha for the publication of information that is rotundly false and that intends to seriously damage the image of our club.”

The statement further added that the club didn’t have any knowledge of the incident with Ronaldo and Kathryn Mayorga, which means that they could possibly not have coerced the Portuguese into paying a settlement.

'Real Madrid had no knowledge of the occurrences that said newspaper refers to relative to the player Cristiano Ronaldo and, as such, could not have done anything about something that it absolutely did not know anything about.

'Real Madrid has asked for a complete correction on the part of the aforementioned publication.'

The Portuguese publication reported on Wednesday that the Merengues forced the superstar to pay the settlement even though Ronaldo didn’t want to as he always claimed himself to be innocent and away from any wrongdoing.
