Update on Rey Mysterio’s WWE return

Ever since he made an appearance in WWE at number 30 in this year's Royal Rumble, Rey Mysterio has been linked with a return to the company on a full-time basis. He was expected to be around during the WrestleMania season but suffered a bicep injury which delayed his return.

But now, it is all but confirmed that Mysterio will make his much-awaited return to WWE in a few days' time. According to a report from Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, Rey Mysterio is, in fact, making his WWE TV return at the SmackDown 1000 episode special.

While his appearance is almost confirmed, it looks like WWE is still undecided about the brand Mysterio will regularly be on. The veteran superstar signed a new two-year contract with WWE recently and as a part of the agreement, he wanted to give his body time to rest regularly and also spend more time with his family.

Rey Mysterio's return will make a lot of dream match-ups become reality. He left WWE in 2015 and made a comeback in the 2018 Royal Rumble and the Greatest Royal Royal Rumble that was held in Saudi Arabia a few days after WrestleMania 34.

It has already been confirmed that former WWE champion and the hometown boy, The Animal Batista, will be making an appearance at the show. WWE SmackDown's 1000th episode will go on-air on 16 October from the Capital One Arena in Washington DC and WWE has already announced that a cluster of legendary superstars will be gracing the event.

WWE have already announced that the likes of Ric Flair, Triple H, Batista, The Undertaker, his wife Michelle McCool, Torrie Wilson, Teddy Long, Vickie Guerrero etc. will be making an appearance. It was also advertised that Ric Flair, Randy Orton, Batista and Triple H will reunite as Evolution at the historic event. Apart from these names, Rey Mysterio, Edge, Christian, John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL) etc. are also rumoured to grace the show.
