T10 2018: Virender Sehwag appointed batting coach of Maratha Arabians

The T10 tournament, originally based in Dubai has increased in prominence over the past few months. The second edition of the tournament will commence from 24th September. Accordingly, former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag has been appointed the batting coach of the Maratha Arabians.

Sehwag had captained the same team for the first two matches in the last season of the T10 tournament, as he now prepares himself to return to the relatively newfound tournament, albeit in a different role. The 39-year-old has had previous coaching experience while being a mentor and consultant for Kings XI Punjab over the past few seasons.

Maratha Arabians is co-owned by businessmen Parvez Khan and Ali Tumbi, along with Bollywood actor Sohail Khan.

Apparently, Parvez Khan spoke to Times Now after the appointment of Sehwag as the batting coach. Khan said, “We had Virendra Sehwag playing for Maratha Arabians in its first season and this year he comes in as a batting coach. We are very happy to have India’s star player as our batting coach this year.”

While speaking to Sportstar, he said, “I spoke to Sehwag recently and he has agreed to take up the new role. He wanted to help out the batsmen and we are looking forward to it.”

Sehwag’s friendly demeanor would certainly help the players gel well, and he could surely provide some valuable insights regarding reading match situations and how to approach batting during such scenarios as such.

Tumbi reportedly said, “Sehwag understands the T10 format very well since he was a very crucial part of our team last year. We believe, his guidance & coaching to our young players will give us a very strong batting order.”

Former Pakistan captain, Wasim Akram would also be a part of the backroom staff of Maratha Arabians in the T10 tournament. With such esteemed cricketing figures joining the franchise, the Arabians would arguably be one of the major title contenders this season.
