In a heartfelt Instagram post, Walcott expressed, “The first moment I put my football boots on aged 10 was a special journey for me. From playing in the park with friends to performing in some of the biggest stadiums in front of huge crowds across the world.”
He continued, “The support shown to me throughout this time has been incredible and in every way imaginable I am truly grateful. I shared the football pitch with so many incredible players and we have created so many unforgettable memories.”
Walcott also acknowledged the influence of his managers and coaches, especially Harry Redknapp and Arsène Wenger, who believed in him when he joined the club at just 16 years old. He cherished the moments from his early days at Southampton, his time with Arsenal, and the privilege of representing England.
As he steps away from the game, Walcott concludes, “I’m lucky enough to have had offers to continue playing but it feels right to finish where I started and hang up my football boots. Thank you to everyone who has been with me along the way.”
Making his debut for Arsenal in August 2006, Walcott’s impact was immediate as he teed up Gilberto for a late equalizer against Aston Villa in the first official game at Emirates Stadium. Over the years, he reached significant milestones, including his first goal for the club in the 2007 League Cup final and becoming the 18th player in Arsenal’s history to score 100 goals.
Walcott’s journey also extended to international play, becoming England’s youngest-ever senior player in May 2006 at the age of 17 years and 75 days. Throughout his illustrious career, he made 47 appearances and scored eight goals for the national team.
