Arsene Wenger speaks on Aaron Ramsey’s future

Arsenal are on a consecutive winning streak of nine matches but the news surrounding the future of Aaron Ramsey continues to dominate the headlines.

Ramsey is in the last year of his contract with the Gunners. He recently revealed that he thought that everything was in place for him to sign a new contract.

However, things have changed and there is a huge speculation that the Welshman would leave on a free transfer next summer.

Now, former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has spoken on this current issue. Actually, Wenger had made an effort to extend Ramsey’s stay at Arsenal before his own departure. However, the negotiations could not come to a definite conclusion that time.

The Frenchman reportedly said, “We tried that before and it still can happen. I don’t really know what is happening at Arsenal. Sure, Aaron Ramsey is in a strong position now and he will use this position.

“But I don’t know how far Arsenal will go in terms of giving him a huge contract. These things were once my responsibility but not anymore. I am happy about that.”

Ramsey has represented Arsenal in eight Premier League matches this season. He has already bagged a goal and three assists and has been one of their most important players over the course of last few years.

His departure could be a major blow to their prospects going ahead. The team has progressed well under Emery’s guidance and it is important that they ensure that Ramsey stays at Arsenal beyond this season.

Former Arsenal midfielder Roy Parlour thinks that Mesut Ozil’s contract extension in January could be a stumbling block in the negotiations with Ramsey.

He said, “Arsenal gave that big contract to Ozil and Aaron’s representatives are saying they want the same, that Aaron influences games as much as Ozil does, he’s in the same situation with one year left on his contract and they went to be paid the same.

“Arsenal might have made a mistake by giving Ozil that much money and they might regret it, but it’s happened now, they’ve got to get on with it.

“Money is an awful thing sometimes because Aaron has been a great servant to the club and I would hate to see him go.

“He always pops up with the goals, at times he can be a bit more efficient with the ball and keep it simple, but he is a very talented player.

“But it’s a situation where both sides can be stubborn.”

Ramsey has been linked to Manchester United, Liverpool and even Juventus in the past few weeks. The upcoming months could decide where the future lies for the 27-year-old midfielder.
