Arsenal Welcomes Kyra Cooney-Cross to the Squad

Arsenal is thrilled to announce the signing of Kyra Cooney-Cross, a talented Australian international midfielder, on a permanent deal. The 21-year-old joins the club from Hammarby IF in Sweden and is set to don the No.32 jersey for Arsenal.

Kyra Cooney-Cross, born in Herston, Australia on February 15, 2002, embarked on her professional career with Melbourne Victory, making her competitive debut at a remarkable age of 15. She accumulated 44 appearances for Melbourne Victory during two spells with the club, which included a season-long stint with Western Sydney Wanderers in the 2019/20 season. Her time with Melbourne Victory was notably successful, securing Australian league titles in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons.

In 2022, Kyra made a move to Hammarby IF in the Swedish Damallsvenskan, where she made 30 appearances and played a pivotal role in the team’s victory in the Swedish Cup during the 2022/23 season.

Kyra Cooney-Cross also left her mark on the international stage, making her debut for the Australian national team against Denmark in June 2021. Since then, she has earned an impressive 39 caps for her country. Her outstanding performance was highlighted during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where she started in all seven matches for the Matildas, contributing to their fourth-place finish.

Expressing her excitement about joining Arsenal, Kyra stated, “I’m so excited to join this club. Arsenal just felt right as soon as I heard about the interest. I’m really looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere at Emirates Stadium in front of a big crowd for our first game there this season. I can’t wait to get started and help us achieve something big together.”

Arsenal’s Head Coach, Jonas Eidevall, spoke highly of Kyra’s potential, saying, “Kyra is one of the best young players in world football, and we are delighted to have brought her to Arsenal. Her passing ability and explosiveness allow her to affect games in a way you rarely see from such a young player, so we firmly believe she will be an excellent addition to our midfield, now and in the future.”

The Head of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley, echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are so pleased to have brought Kyra to our club. At the age of 21, she already has impressive experience at domestic and international level, and we believe she has huge potential for future development. Together with our supporters, we welcome Kyra to the Arsenal family and look forward to seeing her play in the red and white.”

This transfer is subject to the completion of regulatory processes, and Arsenal fans eagerly anticipate seeing Kyra Cooney-Cross in action as she contributes her exceptional skills to the club’s success.
