The transfer market is always hot at the end of the summer, particularly since there are quite a few contracts up for grabs and many players leave as free agents. It is the same story for the English Premier League (EPL). Here’s taking a look at 5 players whose contract will be ending in the summer.

  1. Christian Eriksen: Possibly the biggest fish out of water will be Christian Eriksen, for whom there are several suitors including Barcelona and Real Madrid as per reports. In case Eriksen shifted away from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, this would be a major loss for the team although they are readying for his departure by showing interest in Giovani Lo Celso at Real Betis. Eriksen has reportedly stated that he would love a move to Spain and a £40m and upwards deal may help Tottenham Hotspur bring in new stars.
  2. Adam Lallana: Adam Lallana has turned 31 and the ex-Southampton star’s career has not quite seen him achieve his full potential. The Englishman has been dogged with multiple injuries and appeared only 32 times over the last couple of seasons. Southampton may be interested in his return to the team although Lallana has reportedly stated that he wishes to stay put at Anfield. This is one scenario that will have to be carefully mapped in the future, once Lallana’s contract expires at Liverpool. There is reported interest from AC Milan and Lazio for the midfielder.
  3. Willian: The Brazilian ace has not yet agreed on a new contract with Chelsea and could be a major move for several clubs in the upcoming transfer window. Several clubs are in the reckoning to land Willian and he will be free to make a deal in January. Apparently Juventus and Barcelona continue to remain interested in securing Willian’s services.
  4. David Silva: Another big-ticket player who will be a free agent in the summer is David Silva. He is one of Manchester City’s iconic players and is performing even better with age. However, at 33, he may not land a new contract and several clubs will be more than willing to sign him up as a free agent. Silva may however be interested in finishing his stint at Manchester City and then returning to his birthplace of Gran Carla where he may turn out for Las Palmas. This has reportedly been stated by Silva in the past but you never know which big club is waiting in the wings to land him!
  5. Olivier Giroud: World-Cup winning French striker Olivier Giroud could be another free agent from Chelsea after his contract expires next summer. Giroud has not ruled out a move away from his club and manager Frank Lampard may not be too inclined to retain him, given that he is pushing 33 years of age. Should Giroud be a free agent in the summer, he could look for a move back to France or another good EPL club who would be only too happy to land him at a lower price than anticipated.
