Liverpool FC Women’s striker Sophie Roman Haug is set to return to action for the upcoming match against Manchester City Women in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday. Haug, the team’s top scorer, missed the previous Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth-round victory over Bristol City Women due to an ankle problem. However, manager Matt Beard is optimistic about her availability for the weekend clash.

Beard provided an update on Haug’s condition, stating, “Sophie should be back and available for Sunday’s trip to Manchester City. She had an issue with her ankle but it has settled down.” He mentioned that Haug participated in partial training on Friday and completed a full session on Saturday. With a positive week of preparation, the manager expects her to be ready for the important league fixture.

The Liverpool boss also addressed the status of other players’ fitness. Taylor Hinds, who was withdrawn in the previous match against Bristol City Women, suffered a knock in the first half. Despite her desire to continue, the team chose not to take any risks. Yana Daniels, recovering from a knee problem, returned to contact training on Saturday. However, Leanne Kiernan is set to miss out due to a hip inflammation. Beard explained, “With Leanne, you’ve got to remember that she has been out for 15 months and when you come back you can pick up minor injuries here and there. So, it’s nothing major, it’s a minor one, and we are not anticipating it to be long.”
