Raymon Reifer Cleared for Bowling Variations

Raymon Reifer

West Indies allrounder Raymon Reifer has received clearance to resume bowling slower balls and cutters after being suspended from using those deliveries in October 2023. Remedial footage of his action was sent to Loughborough University, which had previously deemed his action illegal during a domestic match in October. Reifer, now cleared to bowl his variations, has been included in Barbados’ squad for the first three matches of the upcoming West Indies Championship, their premier first-class tournament starting in early February.

In October 2023, during a match between Barbados and Windward Islands, Loughborough University had deemed Reifer’s action for slower balls and cutters to be illegal. Following this suspension, Reifer played in three of the remaining five games for Barbados during the Super50 tournament. His last competitive match was the semi-final against Leeward Islands in November.

Having received clearance, Reifer is set to return to competitive cricket and has been named in Barbados’ squad for the initial matches of the West Indies Championship, which runs from early February to the end of April.

Raymon Reifer, 32, made his debut for the West Indies in Test cricket against New Zealand in Hamilton in 2017. He played his first ODI in 2019 and made his T20I debut in 2022. His last appearance for the West Indies was during the first Test against India in July of the previous year.

This clearance comes as a positive development for Reifer, who can now contribute with his variations and bolster the Barbados squad in the upcoming first-class tournament. The West Indies Championship serves as a crucial platform for players to showcase their skills and stake their claim for national selection. With Reifer available to bowl his complete repertoire, it adds depth and options to the Barbados team as they aim for success in the prestigious tournament.
