Meet Daniel Peretz: Bayern Munich’s New Israeli Goalkeeper
- Updated: August 29, 2023
Bayern Munich has reinforced their goalkeeping lineup with the acquisition of Daniel Peretz, an exceptional talent whose remarkable performance for Israel at the 2023 UEFA European U21 Championship left Youssoufa Moukoko and Jessic Ngankam haunted.
Age: 23 (born: 10 July 2000)
Club: Bayern Munich
Country: Israel (1 cap)
Peretz introduced himself to the German football scene with a standout Player of the Match display during the 2023 U21 Euros. In a 1-1 draw, he thwarted Moukoko and Ngankam from the penalty spot, earning well-deserved attention. By then, Peretz was already a full Israel international, having earned his place in senior squads since October 2021. His debut against Cyprus on 20 November 2022 marked his entry into the international stage. At the Championships, Peretz joined Israel’s over-age players and showcased his prowess by saving a pivotal penalty in the quarter-final shootout victory against Georgia. While he missed the semi-finals due to suspension, his contributions couldn’t secure victory as Israel fell short against eventual winners England.
Standing at 6’2″, Peretz arrived at the U21 Euros with a burgeoning reputation, swiftly claiming the top goalkeeper position at his childhood club, Maccabi Tel Aviv. His rise was swift, with Maccabi entrusting him with his first-team debut in the 2020/21 Toto Cup Al final. There, he showcased his skills by securing a 2-0 victory, clinching success in Israel’s equivalent of a league cup competition. Since then, Peretz has amassed an impressive 101 appearances for Maccabi, achieving an incredible 44 clean sheets at a staggering average of 43 percent. His journey includes a loan spell at Beitar Tel Aviv Bat Yam in 2019/20, where he not only saved penalties but remarkably scored two himself. Additionally, Peretz’s influence extended to 24 UEFA club competition fixtures, including qualifying rounds, and he played a pivotal role in guiding Maccabi to the knockout stages of the 2021/22 Europa Conference League.
