The LFC Foundation and official club partner SC Johnson joined forces to present an expanded and enhanced edition of the “Big Red Summer” in 2023. This annual initiative aimed to engage and inspire young people and families, encouraging them to embrace an active lifestyle while learning about the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling in their communities.

In the previous year, the “Big Red Summer” managed to involve 7,500 young participants. However, this year’s edition proved to be even more significant, with over 15,000 young people and families participating in various football and sports camps, park events, and community festivals across Liverpool.

As part of their partnership with Liverpool FC, SC Johnson posed a challenge to fans and LFC Foundation participants alike—to reconsider their environmental impact. Throughout the “Big Red Summer” 2023, participants were encouraged to bring reusable water bottles to their sessions, contributing to a reduction in single-use plastic waste throughout the community.

This season, SC Johnson is collaborating with Liverpool FC to decrease waste generated by the club by an impressive 10 percent. However, they acknowledge that they can’t achieve this goal alone. They call upon fans and communities to unite and implement small changes that can collectively make a substantial difference, ultimately creating a better world for future generations.

Matt Parish, CEO of LFC Foundation, expressed his delight about continuing their partnership with SC Johnson for another year of the “Big Red Summer.” He emphasized the importance of teaching young people and families about sustainability and fostering a sense of responsibility for the environment they live in. Passing on this knowledge to the next generation is a vital step toward caring for the communities they are deeply connected with.

As a token of appreciation for individuals’ positive environmental actions, SC Johnson rewarded them with points and prizes through MyLFC during the “Big Red Summer.” This incentive program is set to continue throughout the season as Liverpool FC and SC Johnson remain committed to making the world a better place. They also challenge fans to embrace the necessary changes to achieve their impressive 10 percent waste-reduction goal.

The “Big Red Summer” was a resounding success this year, and organizers look forward to welcoming participants to more of their weekly LFC Foundation sessions and events throughout the autumn season. It’s a collective effort to create a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
