Wolves sign Joao Moutinho

Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the signing of Joao Moutinho for an undisclosed fee, according to Squawka news. They also claim that he has penned a two-year deal. Earlier reports suggested that the newly promoted side would pay around £5m for the Portuguese, who is now set to become their 8^th permanent signing this summer.

The 31-year-old is the third-most capped player in Portugal’s footballing history, only behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Figo. He has three domestic titles with Porto and has also won the Euros in 2016. He was an integral part of the dynamic Monaco side that won the Ligue 1 in 2017.

In the quest of securing survival, Wolves have been rather busy in this transfer window, having secured the services of many players along with the removal of deadwood from the squad. Nuno Espírito Santo has added an array of fresh talent, including the likes of Diogo Jota, Rui Patricio, Willy Boly and Ruben Vinagre.

Moutinho was targeted by them for a few days before they launched a bid and snapped him up with ease. It is understood that the club’s fantastic relationship with agent Jorge Mendes has steered such sensational moves, as he has also helped the transfers of Jota, Patricio and Ruben Neves. Also to mention, Neves is expected to be Moutinho’s midfield partner at the Molineux.

The inclusion of Portuguese players will definitely bolster the squad’s chemistry and the club’s relationship with Mendes, who is more than just an influential player agent.

Having made over 700 senior appearances for club and country, Moutinho could be one of the signings of the season at £5m, which seems to be a steal for such an experienced footballer. He is 31 years of age and still has a good few years left in him, which is more than what’s required for a club looking to maintain PL status.
