Why Morata refused to celebrate after scoring against Nottingham

Chelsea’s misfiring striker Alvaro Morata reportedly feels he has been shown lack of respect by his club, hence refusing to celebrate the goals he scored in Chelsea’s FA Cup win against Nottingham Forest to make his feelings clear. The Spanish striker found the back of the net for the first time since the beginning of November in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.

Spanish outlet Marca claims Morata was unhappy with the criticism he received from Chelsea’s assistant manager Gianfranco Zola ahead of the FA Cup tie and wanted to make it clear with his gesture of discontent.

Zola who spoke to the press ahead of the clash did not hold back and criticized his misfiring striker.

‘People expect a lot from Chelsea’s number nine. They expect a lot of goals and many great performances. ‘This is normal and Alvaro has to get used to it. If he goes to another big club, the same thing will happen to him. He has to learn to leave everything behind because these are burdens that will not help you perform better when you step on the field. He plays at Chelsea, not at Southampton or Brighton, with respect for these clubs’ Zola said.

Morata was hurt by these comments and feels the club is not backing him during his tough period and are looking to offload him in the January transfer window.

The FA Cup tie did not start exceptionally well for Morata. He first missed an open goal, before a couple of his shots on target were kept at bay. However, in the second half, the Spaniard was much more clinical and his double sent Chelsea through to the next round. Despite his match-winning heroics, the 26-year-old is expected to leave Stamford Bridge and could end up in a swap deal with AC Milan resulting in Argentine Gonzalo Higuain reuniting with Maurizio Sarri.

Reports also claim that Morata has no second thoughts about leaving Chelsea, especially after his good friend Cesc Fabregas, who is set to join Monaco, bid farewell to Chelsea fans after the FA Cup fixture.
