Real Madrid News: Cristiano Ronaldo creates another Champions League record after brace against PSG

Cristiano Ronaldo and the Champions League have a love story of its own. And on Wednesday night at the Bernabeu, the man from Portugal rewrote the record books yet again in the competition.

A brace from the Real Madrid superstar ensured a vital 3-1 win over PSG in the first leg of their enticing Round of 16 clash. In doing so, Ronaldo became the first player to score 100 goals in the Champions League for a single team (Real Madrid).

The 33-year-old is also the only player in history of the competition to have scored in all the first seven games of a season.

Madrid were slow off the blocks in their encounter against PSG but found their rhythm as the clock neared halftime. Ronaldo started off their successful comeback when he emphatically dispatched a penalty in the 45th minute to cancel out Adrien Rabiot’s opener.

The Madrid number 7 then went on to add to his tally when he netted the all-so-vital second goal for his side in the 83rd minute with a deft touch finish. That goal led him to 100 goals for Real Madrid in the competition.

Ronaldo has 115 goals in total in Champions League, 18 ahead of Lionel Messi – who has bagged 97 for Barcelona.

The current Ballon d’Or holder was a huge reason why Real became the first side ever to defend the Champions League trophy – bagging 20 goals in his last 12 appearances in the tournament. Ronaldo has scored in each of the seven games he has played in the Champions League this season as well.

Speaking before the Madrid-PSG match, Ronaldo posted a video on Twitter where he asked Madrid followers to give his side their unconditional support. “On Wednesday we have a very, very important match against a great team,” Ronaldo said on Real Madrid Twitter. “What me and the team are asking for is your unconditional support like always and together we will be much stronger,” Ronaldo added.
