Real Madrid legend suggests Jose Mourinho is past his best

Former Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas has taken a swipe at Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho following their defeat to Liverpool on Sunday. Casillas who had a stormy relationship with the Portuguese manager during their time at the Santiago Bernabeu used the opportunity to take a dig at his former boss. Mourinho had sidelined Casillas during his time at Real Madrid and the duo and have confronted their stormy relationship in recent interviews.

Manchester United endured a nightmare trip to Anfield on Sunday after goals from Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri gave the league leaders a deserved victory. The defeat means Manchester United are placed 6th on the Premier League table, 19 points behind league leaders Liverpool. Jose Mourinho’s turbulent time at Manchester United saw Casillas take to Twitter to take a jibe at the Portuguese tactician.

According to a Portuguese newspaper someone said that a player like me (37 years) is at the end of his career. Completely agree!  My question is, for that newspaper: in the case of coaches, when and at what point do you see that they are no longer to lead a team or train?

Casillas Tweet was in response to JoseMourinho’s recent comments where he called the Porto goalkeeper sly for hisbehaviour during their time at Real Madrid.

‘When he says he never confronted me he’s not telling the truth. He confronted me and he did it in a way in which no-one does it better than him, secretly’

Jose Mourinho was quoted saying by a Portuguese news outlet.

In another interview for Vamos Casillas told Jorge Valdano that if he could go back in time he would have “taken the bull by the horns and faced Mourinho” to which Mourinho responded, “typical of someone whois at the end of his career”.

Seems like this war of words is not going to come to an end any time soon.
