Neymar explains his antics at the World Cup

Neymar was lambasted during the World Cup for his antics on the field, as the Brazilian garnered criticism owing to his intense overreaction upon being fouled on the pitch.

The former Barcelona player was often seen dwindling on the ground, acting weird whilst being fouled. He was usually looking for free-kicks and spot-kicks rather than capitalizing on the given situations.

His shambolic on-field behavior means that the fans were left irritated as Neymar was expected to lead them to World Cup glory this time around. However, what we saw was a very immature version of a player who was carrying an entire nation’s expectations in Russia.

Neymar attracts many challenges on him due to his quick feet and brilliant dribbling technique. However, his absurd reactions did not help the cause either, as much of the attention was focused on his behavior rather than the cynical fouls that were made on him.

This does not mean that the opposition is solely to be blamed, as Neymar’s tendency to exaggerate on even bleak challenges invited criticism from fans and pundits alike.

However, the 26-year-old has clarified his stance on the situation, and here are the excerpts from a new Portuguese-language ad from Gillette.

Neymar said, “When I act like a brat, it isn't because I'm a spoiled child but because I still haven't learned to deal with my frustrations. You can keep throwing rocks at me, or you can throw your rocks away and help me get up. Because when I do get up, buddy, the whole country gets up with me.'

It is necessary for Neymar to ensure that he conducts himself better on the field now onwards. Despite scoring twice and assisting once in five matches, his erratic demeanor garnered most of the attention. It is surely something that the Brazilian could improve on in the future.
