Maurizio Sarri agrees to become the Chelsea boss

Maurizio Sarri, has reportedly agreed to become the new manager of Chelsea football club following the exit of Antonio Conte yesterday. The Italian coach was extensively linked with the London-based club, and they might reach an agreement soon now.

Sarri did an exceptional job at Napoli, as they finished third in the Serie A last season. Napoli were only five points adrift of champions Juventus, and played an extremely free-flowing brand of football.

They impressed numerous fans with their style of play, drawing comparisons with Manchester City’s approach on the field too. Sarri is known to be a stern coach, someone who focuses on completely instilling his football-related ideologies in his players.

He is someone who trains the players to adapt to his demands and then makes execute these philosophies on the field. The dynamism, flawless style of play that Napoli presented last season ensured that they maintained a stern pressure over Juventus in the Serie A table.

Chelsea were keenly interested in acquiring Sarri’s services, but the negotiations to release him from Napoli took time to conclude. Napoli eventually replaced Sarri with Carlo Ancelloti, and they received some fee as they did not release Sarri from the contract yet.

Contractual negotiations meant that the inevitable was delayed, but this could be the beginning of a new era post Conte’s tumultuous departure. Sarri is someone who imposes his beliefs regarding the style of play upon players. He could bring a certain, unique identity to the club with his approach towards the game too.

Moreover, club legend Gianfranco Zola will be reportedly announced as Sarri’s assistant and will work alongside the manager to ease him off the extra burden of responsibilities.

Sarri will get some relief, as Chelsea won’t appear in the UEFA Champions League next season. This might allow him to rotate the players and rest the important stars before the big league games.

It remains to be seen how Maurizio Sarri responds to the pressure of delivering success at Chelsea. He would have to buckle up and ensure that the club ties up players like Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois, so that Sarri will have a strong, experienced core of the team.
