Manchester United Ready To Send Forward To Chelsea In Exchange For Only One Star – Report

Manchester United’s young French forward Anthony Martial could soon become a Chelsea player if Jose Mourinho has his way. According to a report from The Independent, the Red Devils are open to exploring the option of sending the former Monaco man to Stamford Bridge but only if they can get their hands on Chelsea winger Willian.

Brought in by Louis Van Gaal as the most expensive teenager ever in 2015 enjoyed a prolific first year at Old Trafford. However, his first-team opportunities have taken a backseat ever since Jose Mourinho took over the reins.

The 22-year-old’s future at the club looks extremely bleak and it has been reported that Mourinho has grown increasingly frustrated at the lack of development from the youngster. The manager is also believed to be unhappy at his inability to carry out tactical orders.

Mourinho was less than pleased with the performances of Martial and Marcus Rashford and criticised their performances publicly following United’s 1-0 win over Brighton Hove Albion.

“For 10 months I get asked 'why always Lukaku? Why always Lukaku? Why always this player?’” Mourinho said, in reference to why Martial and Rashford don’t more regularly play. “'That guy doesn't have a chance to start, the other one is on the bench'. You know why now.”

Why Willian and does it make sense?

Willian was one of Mourinho’s most trusted men during his second spell at Chelsea. He is believed to see the Brazilian as the stark opposite of Martial – his ideal wide man who combines flair along with grit. One who can carry out his tactical nuances.

The deal is already being mooted out amongst intermediaries according to the report.

With Martial struggling to make it to the matchday squad at times after the arrival of Alexis Sanchez, Manchester United might do well to cash in on him while opinions regarding his ceiling remains high.

Mourinho, on the other hand, knows that he needs to truly needs to mount a challenge on the title next season – his third – after spending a whole lot of money in the transfer windows to shape the team according to his needs.

Willian represents a ready-made solution for Mourinho while the deal (which would see Chelsea part with money as well as Willian) should be a practical one for Chelsea as well. The Blues are looking to revitalise a squad that is looking somewhat aged.
