Manchester United News: Diego Godin rejects move to Old Trafford

Manchester United are just not able to land any of their transfer targets this summer. After the signing of Fred and Diogo Dalot, things seems to have gone off to a crazy start and United fans expected their club to make big signings this summer.

However, since then, the Old Trafford side has only managed to land Lee Grant from Stoke City. The goalkeeper was signed as a 3rd choice backup and will be made a coach next season.

Reports today claimed that Manchester United were keen on signing a centre back and have been keeping a eye on several targets. Yerry Mina, Harry Maguire, Jerome Boateng and Kurt Zouma.

All the above mentioned target have rejected the move to Old Trafford and United shifted their focus elsewhere. The Red Devils want to sig Diego Godin from Atletico Madrid as per recent reports by Sky Sports.

The Uruguayan reportedly has €20 million release and United were ready to trigger it. They Old Trafford side are desperate to sign a centre back and Di Marzio reported that they activated the release cause in the last hour and were now ready to hold talks with the defender.

 

However, BBC have broken the news that Godin has rejected the move to Old Trafford. Adding to it, they have said that he is set to sign a new contract at Atletico in the coming days.

His current contract was set to expire at the end of the season. Mourinho wanted to take advantage of it but has been rejected.

Mourinho has Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof in his ranks but was not impressed with them. He wanted to sign an upgrade at any cost but that has not happened. The manager has confirmed in his press conference that he will not be getting any new players today.
