Manchester United agrees deal with Wolves for Chris Smalling – Reports

Wolverhampton Wanderers have made some stunning signings this summer. They have landed nine players so far and are reportedly not done yet!

Chris Smalling is said to be their latest target, and they have gone on and agreed personal terms with him. This according to journalist Peter Harding, who claims that the two clubs are now discussing a deal.

Reports suggest that Mourinho is ready to let go of the English defender if he can get Harry Maguire from Leicester City. They are also looking to sell Marcos Rojo to Everton for £30 million.

With Smalling reportedly priced at £20 million by United, Wolves are likely to match the asking price. The defender is 28-years-old and has a lot to offer. It will be a step down for him but will do himself a massive favour as he will play regularly at the Molineux Stadium.

Mourinho has Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones ahead of Smalling in his pecking order and with another central defender arriving, it will be challenging for Smalling to make it to the starting XI. The former Fulham defender will have to find another club if he wants to play regularly.

Playing second fiddle already cost him a place in England’s World Cup squad and if he continues to stay at Old Trafford, it will continue to hurt his chances of making it back to the national side. Smalling has been linked with a move away for a long time now. Arsenal have always been the favourites to sign him while there were rumours about Everton and West Ham United too.

Meanwhile, BBC reports suggest that United have no intention of selling Smalling this summer. Their ManUtd correspondent, Simon Stone has revealed that the club have not received any offer nor do they have any plans of letting him leave.
