MANCHESTER UNITED are ready to pay Mauro Icardi’s release clause, reports say.
The Inter Milan striker has been in sensational form for the Italian side.
In 24 games, he has hit the net 18 times as Inter fight for Champions League qualification.
The Serie A side are fourth in the league, and whether the team play top-tier European football next season is understood to have a bearing on Icardi’s future.
The 25-year-old has a release clause of £97m (€110m).
Several teams have been alerted to his situation, including Real Madrid, Paris St-Germain and United.
And according to CalcioMercato, the Red Devils are willing to pay his release clause to steal a march on their rivals.
Jose Mourinho already has a wealth of attacking talent at the club.
As well as Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, United added Alexis Sanchez to their squad in January.
But Icardi has emerged as one of the top strikers in Europe since his move to the San Siro in 2013.
United strengthened their cause for Champions League football next season with a victory against Chelsea.
The Red Devils regained second place from Liverpool after a 2-1 win at Old Trafford where Lukaku and Jesse Lingard scored.
